Core coursework has CPH:5100 Introduction to Public Health, BIOS:4120 Introduction to Biostatistics, CBH:4105 Introduction to Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, EPID:4400 Epidemiology I: Principles, HMP:4000 Introduction to U.S. Health Care Systems, and OEH:4240 Global Environmental Health.

Program Format and Duration

The program is offered entirely online and combines flexible coursework with applied experiences such as internships and capstone projects. You can complete your MPH degree in two years by enrolling in 9 credits each term. Students must complete 42 total credit hours that include 24 credit hours in the Public Health Core, 13 credit hours of concentration core and 5 credit hours of culminating experiences.

Admission Requirements

You must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution from within the United States or equivalent evaluation from a DMU approved International evaluation service to be eligible for admission. The program does not require GRE scores.

Application to the Master of Public Health program is accepted through the Centralized Application Service for Public Health (SOPHAS). International students applying for admission to DMU are eligible for online study only. Applicants with degrees from higher education institutions outside the U.S. must submit a course-by-course Foreign Transcript Evaluation through World Education Services.

TOEFL exam scores are required of all international applicants unless the applicant has earned a degree from an accredited university in any country whose sole national language is English. A TOEFL score of 600 on the paper exam or a score of 100 on the online exam and a writing score of 27 are recommended.

You must complete a criminal background check, which may include a drug screen and Iowa Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Registry checks through the DMU preferred vendor and process. Results must be released to DMU prior to matriculation, with costs paid by the student.

3. St. Ambrose University Online MPH Program

St. Ambrose University’s 100% asynchronous online format lets you complete coursework anytime and anywhere. This provides maximum flexibility for working professionals. The Council on Education for Public Health accredited the MPH program at its meeting from June 1-3, 2022, with a five-year accreditation term extending to July 1, 2027. The program’s original accreditation date was recorded as June 15, 2019. But St. Ambrose University withdrew from CEPH accreditation voluntarily, with this action effective through January 1, 2027.
